Top 5 Energy Saving Tips

Saving energy doesn’t only just make you more energy-efficient, it also saves you money too. There are multiple ways to reduce energy usage in your home and do not worry, these tips won’t force you to completely change how you live, however, can still drastically decrease the amount of energy you use.

Take Control of Your Heating

During the harsh, biting winter, you cannot be blamed for using an electric heater, though this does not mean you should be leaving it on all the time. Be sure to switch the heater off if you are not using it, make sure to also close any windows or doors that could be a cause for the cold temperature.

Don’t Over-Load Your Tumble Dryer

Although you may think you are decreasing your energy usage by just cramming every item of clothing into your tumble dryer, this is not the case. In fact, tumble dryers usually use more energy than most washing machines!

Try to put your clothes on a washing line if you can as this is far more energy-efficient than using a tumble dryer.

Use Energy Saving Lightbulbs

Energy-saving lightbulbs last up to 10 times longer than traditional lightbulbs as well as at the same time using 80% less energy. It also produces the same amount of light as a standard 60w lightbulb. The reduction on the energy cost would be around £60 over the lifetime of the lightbulb.

Be Cool When Using Washing Machines

Did you know that 90% of the energy used in a washing machine is heating the water? Using a 30°C wash could save you way over a third of the energy used in a standard wash.

 Fill Up Your Dishwasher

Make sure that when you are using your dishwasher that you put a full load into it as half a load uses the same amount of energy as a full one. You could also decide to stop your dishwasher when it gets to the drying part of the cycle and let your dishes dry naturally instead of wasting energy by letting the machine dry them.

What Does Being Energy Efficient Mean?

Being energy-efficient means to use less energy whilst doing the same exact service.  You can save a lot of energy at home by just using appliances that save energy or ensuring you have insulated your home properly.

Energy efficiency and energy conservation, though share similar properties, are not to be mistaken for each other. Energy conservation is saving or reducing energy by going without service, for example walking to work, instead of getting the bus. Yet energy efficiency is not just going without a service to reduce C02 emissions yet is also great for you as it saves you money also!
