Hiring an Electrician Safely During Lockdown

During the lockdown, many electricians are only working for emergency electrical situations. When this occurs then, it is vital that the safety between the client and electrician is prioritised to make sure the chance of them spreading something as dangerous as COVID-19 is very low.

Read on to see some of the ways how you can safely hire an electrician to do work in your home or workspace.

Good Communication

Contractors should always maintain perfect communication with a client, this way there will much less confusion in the work and allow the experienced electrician to do the necessary electrical repairs without having to constantly communicate with a client in what needs doing and also this reassures the client as they will have a good gauge of the qualities and capabilities of the chosen electrician and allow them to work safely.

Maintain Social Distancing

This most likely goes without saying, seeing as everyone has had ‘two metres’ drilled into their heads since March 2020! However, this does not take away from the importance of partaking in the act. You should avoid any physical contact with your chosen contractor and perhaps wear gloves when making them the standard British welcoming of a cup of tea.

Better Safe Than Sorry

Be sure to discuss any issues with the contractor before having them over to do electrical repairs until you can ensure that everything will be handled safely. You can do this by obviously avoiding any contact if either you or the electrician are showing any signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Be sure to isolate for the recommended time set by the government, all of this will again ensure that all electrical repair work can be carried out safely in the future.

Hygiene

Undoubtedly the most important factor, keeping good hygiene is a must, especially due to the current situation and is one of the reasons why we are in lockdown in the first place. Make sure both you the client and the contractor are washing your hands regularly, especially when touching any foreign objects.

Ensure that the electrician contractor is wearing PPE, this would include items such as:

  • Facemask
  • Latex gloves
  • Face-shield

It is will also benefit the client to wear a form of PPE themselves to allow the electrician to carry out their electrical repairs safely and reassure them as if both are wearing protection then the chance of spread is reduced dramatically.
